When I went through my own shop, over 100 of my active Etsy listings no longer had a matching product in Printify. Every one of them was still live on Etsy, still showing up in search, and still happy to take a buyer's money. If any of them had sold, the order would have arrived with nothing on Printify's side to make it.
Nothing told me. Etsy doesn't know Printify's product is gone, and the listing looks completely normal from the shop side.
How it happens
An Etsy listing and the Printify product that fulfills it are two separate things that happen to be connected. Either side can change without the other noticing. The common ways they drift apart:
- Printify removes products. On my shop, Printify cleared out catalog products that had never sold, even after I'd asked support to keep them. The Etsy listings stayed live.
- A print provider or product is discontinued. If the blueprint or provider behind a product goes away, the product can go with it.
- A product gets deleted by accident during a clean-up in Printify, while its Etsy listing is left alone.
- Sizes or colors get switched off in Printify but stay for sale on Etsy. The listing still exists, but some of its options can't be made.
The listings most at risk are older ones that rarely sell. They're the ones Printify is most likely to have removed, and the ones you're least likely to look at.
What happens if one of them sells
The buyer pays, Etsy takes its fees, and the order needs to reach Printify. With no product behind the listing, there's nothing to send it to. You're left rebuilding the product from scratch and placing the order by hand, against the processing time the buyer was promised. If you don't notice, it simply doesn't ship, and that's a late order or a cancellation on your shop's record.
How to find them by hand
Start in Printify: open My Products and look at the External products tab. Listings in your connected store that Printify isn't fulfilling show up there, which can be a quick way to spot ones that have lost their product. To be thorough, check against your Etsy listings directly:
- Get your active Etsy listings. In Shop Manager, go to Settings, then Options, then Download Data, and download your currently-for-sale listings as a CSV.
- Open your products in Printify and go through them against that list, matching each Etsy listing to its Printify product.
- Flag any Etsy listing with no Printify product, and check whether it has ever sold. One that has sold is the most urgent, because it's proven it gets orders.
- For listings that do match, open the Printify product and check that every size and color offered on Etsy is still enabled.
Titles rarely match exactly. Printify often shortens a long Etsy title or uses its own product name, so this is slow work on a big shop. It took me long enough that I automated it.
How to fix them
- Deactivate the Etsy listing first if you can't fix it straight away. A deactivated listing stops taking orders but keeps its history, and you can reactivate it later.
- Reconnect it with Printify's Migration Tool if the design is worth keeping. In My Products, open the External products tab, choose the listing, and click Migrate product to set it up for fulfillment again. The Etsy listing itself stays the same, so its reviews, favorites, search history and URL carry on.
- Use Replace if the product or print provider was discontinued. Printify's Replace feature switches a product to a different model or print provider while keeping the same Etsy listing, for example moving a shirt to a similar blank from another provider.
- Delete the listing if it never sold and isn't worth saving. One less listing to keep in sync.
- Re-enable or remove missing variants so Etsy only offers the sizes and colors Printify can actually make.
Reconnecting the existing listing beats publishing a new one: a brand-new Etsy listing starts from zero, with no reviews, favorites or search history. Printify's help center covers both the Migration Tool and Replace step by step.
Keeping it from happening again
There's no setting that keeps the two in sync for you, so the fix is checking regularly. Once a month is plenty for most shops, and more often if you have a lot of older listings or you've had products disappear before. Pay attention to any emails from Printify about discontinued products or providers, too.
